As requested, and as ever not before time. Here's the 2014, ever more extended family Kris Kindle. It has been decided that, since BLS (or is that LBS!) and London Son are both co-habiting and having partners that are considered a part of the afore mentioned extended family, we will go back to couples. Same rules as ever, but this time it's €100 per couple.
Whilst a couple based KK may make the shopping easier, will it make the choosing of that one wants harder? I want titanium bike parts, but doubt that that's what we'll end up asking for...........
Get advertising and, in the spirit of KK, let's have plenty of laughs and if there are to be any competitions let's, not in the spirit of KK, have something other than music!!!!

So its that time of year when we have to prove we're not a robot. The times I've had to re-do the hidden letters......... but overall its worth all the effort.
Come along all you happy Kris Kros Kindlers Kinglers Kringlers whatever, please get blogging.
And a huge welcome to London Son's other half and to the other half of BLS or is she LBS. WE'll look forward to your contribution. Don't forget that although we're working as couples you can still put in an advert for your own gift up to €50. You don't have to have a joint gift of €100. We're looking for some really original hidden clues as well as straightforward requests.
54 sleeps to Christmas Day. It seems a lot, but believe me, its going to go very fast.
I'm putting on my thinking cap and trying to think what I would like. Please do the same.
I week later.........
No sign of any blogs!
London's Son's OH and BLS's OH or is LBS's OH. Or can you think of a better name for each? Please clarify.
Love from MUM of SUM
We, who have temporarily abandoned our accommodation due to the influx of a building firm and the lack of a roof over our heads wish to leave the following comment for your perusal regarding the purchasing of our Kriskindle:
(We also wish to apply to the Guinness book of Records for the earliest Kriskindle hint ever - hopefully the purchaser of said present can then in a relaxed and leisurely fashion purchase the item in question...)
This is something which we have shared and used for approximately one third of our married life. It has been during that time very close to us (although sometimes the sharing has been somewhat one sided). These come in different sizes, and we currently wish to have a slightly larger one. Interestingly, in this country it is usual for a married couple to have a separate one each, but in this case, as many others, caring is sharing!
Hopefully this clue will help our kriskindler to toggle onto the idea of this present...
It would be very helpful if you could tell us the size you wish it to be, although I'm told it gets smaller as you get older?!
MY dear wife is waiting in the wings with sizes, websites, and no doubt all sorts of other suggestions. But where's the fun in that - people are supposed to guess what it is we want, or at least try before all is revealed.
P.S. Isn't it funny how certain things grow as we get older, and certain things shrink...
As our Kris Kindle has already requested for the technical details, I shall reveal the crucial measurements here:
- size 220cm x 240cm (exactly!), so that we can get additions to it in our local IKEA
- please leave birds to keep their own feathers as we do not wish to have a feather one
- washable in +60 C
- a reasonably warm one (our summer version of this item is still ok... it's the winter version (which we received as a wedding gift 15 years ago) that is completely falling apart by this stage...)
If the postage proves problematic, please do not panic... A voucher for IKEA would do us absolutely fine as we'd be able to get one in there for 99€...
Well done to the Finnish couple for being first to put up their request.I thought it was birch twigs though that the Finnish use in the bedroom!!!!
This couples thing is making it a bit more difficult for us this year!! BIL thought that a fancy new powertool would be a great idea but it exceeded the budget by quite a bit, then the kids came up with an idea that sounded really good as I now have a bit more storage space since BIL spent the whole of half term putting in new cupboards and sink into the back porch, which has really tidied things up and looks great even if it was a bit difficult to do without a fancy new powertool, do excuse me if I seem to be waffling on a bit! That was one idea, I'm sure more will be forthcoming soon!!!
Power tools are great. Whatever it is, he really can't manage without. I'm with BIL on this one.
Great that others beginning to come up with their ideas. Please remember that we do need time for looking for things/postage... so hints from all would be greatly appreciated. We're really busy at the moment and any spare time is spent searching for tiles, designing stairs, asking for offers on various things etc...
A big part of our house has currently no roof at all (just a bit of plastic covering it at night), so we're sincerely hoping that it won't rain or snow too much in the next couple of weeks. We're somewhat (!) crammed in our two bed apartment... and will definitely appreciate when we eventually get back into our own house.
In terms of our Kris Kindle wish: size 240 cm x 210 cm would also be ok as I've found a place that does that size covers too.
Brilliant. I too thought it was birch twigs you were looking for and I know exactly where to source them, but it wasn't in Ikea, so I'm obviously barking up the wrong treee.
Father of all is just recovering, you'll be glad to know, from the removal of Horrid Henry the Hernia. Its now safely back inside where it belongs. The only trouble is that his wings have been clipped and he's resorting to doing jig saws. However, there was great rejoicing a week ago because Murphy the Organ is now complete and filling up the space literally from floor to ceiling in the corner beside the gallery. Its very gothic looking and quite a presence in the room. We're waiting for tweedle dum and tweedle dee (aka Jeric) to come and sort out the voicing and tuning. Then it will be a really useful beast.
After all that I'm sorry but there is still no inspiration coming from us. Maybe now we're at home for a few days, we'll get thinking and blogging.
Right, here goes with my suggestions, my better half should be along soon with his too. I already gave you one idea in my last post but it seems that was a bit cryptic for some!!
A subscription for Gardens Illustrated is a fab gift that I really loved getting a couple of years back although it's slightly over my budget or a jug vase would also be nice, not glass as they seem to have a habit of breaking! A new handbag would be a real treat, average size and bright colours would be fun but I'm really not fussy (I can ask for one now we're working as couples!) and see if you can work out the other thing I suggested, it's a bit cryptic alright!
Who is LBS or BLS, I'm confused...
London Born Son?
Little Big Sister?
Big Little Sister?
To save confusion I have returned to my old name.... Though I believe I am actually BLS....
We have thought long and hard about what we would like.
Firstly a large map of the world (200cm x 140cm)(78 3/4" x 55") that can be mounted on the wall would be amazing. This one from IKEA is a little over budget but will give you an idea of what we are thinking.
http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/products/70119430/
A poster map that we could mount on a large slab of wood would work well too.
We would also love a decent carving knife set, if this came with a carving tray I would love it.
Sorry we are not being very cryptic. Now where are the rest of the requests????
Part 1
Originally it was the 3 wise men who brought gold, frankincense and myrrh, but on the count of I/II/III, the queen delivered something in platinum!
Part 2
once upon a time there was a photographer called David, who lived down the street, he loved taking pics of the oddest things, in the strangest positions, but he did "Gib som"ething back to his neighbours with his delightful results!
Hope both these fit within the €50 limit...if not please let me know....BTW there not power tools!
Our father saith (singeth?)
'Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la laaa la la la la
Play with toys, what fun by golly,
Fa la la la laaa la la la la
Use the Dremel for my drilling,
Fa la la la laaa la la la la
Filing, grinding, cutting, milling
Fa la la la laaa la la la la.
Drilling holes can be such folly
Ah ah ah ah aaah ah ah ah ah
'Is that straight?', 'It's not, you wally!'
Bah bah bah bah baaah bah bah bah bah
Now I've buggered up the model
Fu fu fu fu Fu...... u u u u....
'Cos my drill did do a wobble
Yu yu yu yu yu yu yuck
(lead in to verse three, with fermatas)
NOW - - - A - - - -
Dremel Drill Stand decked with holly
My my my my myyyy my my my my
For my pressie just might quali
Fy fy fy fy fyyyy fy fy fy fy
Then, in spite of eyes askew
ha ha ha ha haaa ha ha ha ha - My
holes would be quite straight and true.
Hoorah ah ah ah aaaah ah ah ah ah.
Further to my previous communication:
i) the Dremel Drill Stand aforementioned has a reference number viz. 220-01
ii) the price is a little over budget, but the other half's is likely to be under. Are we allowed to compensate between us so to speak?
iii) A supplier is Caulfields (Ireland) which can be googled
iv)please perform the poetic verses above to the traditional Welsh tune usually associated with the carol 'Deck the halls with boughs of holly', (sung traditionally by Welshmen), in the key of G major, or G flat major, or both at once.
v) thank you for your attention.
A suggestion from London Town, is something to improve London Son's dancing moves, after the bootleg beatles fiasco: a red letter day dancing for two https://www.redletterdays.co.uk/Experience/Ref/DMXAA/A-Dance-Taster-For-Two
5,6,7,8..... More suggestions to follow shortly (LS agreed to this while still jet lagged...)
Hee hee hee, have great visions of LS swaying with his french horn up on the stage of the Cork opera house!!!
So do I! It was a wonderful sight and he was pretty good where they'd had a practice, but the last encore did it for him. The trumpeter took pity on him and danced him off the stage! So I think red letter day dancing will really do the job.
Also its great to hear from London Lady. Welcome to the blogsite and hopefully there will be many more blogs from you!
Next topic.
BLS or is it LBS and BIL left at the crack of dawn this morning to go on their 20th Anniversary 'HONEYMOON'.
They are staying with LS and LL tonight and then heading for a romantic couple of days in Paris.
All those left at home wish them a super break and hope they come home refreshed and ready for the Christmas chaos!
With all our love.......
Now for a story.....
Seven odd years ago Mum of Sum and VL were in the Rover which was being used as a pack horse at that time. VL asked M of S what she was going to do stuck in the country. She replied, read a few books, do a bit of gardening and generally relax.
VL took her breath away by suggesting she learnt to cook. And involve F of q a l. A big discussion ensued. M of S pointed out that food was eaten so quickly in Dean St that there was no point going to any big trouble. VL said there should be time now to go to trouble and enjoy a cosy meal for two with lots of wine.
Anyway 7 years later and the old foggies are still not exactly sitting at home doing nothing. But M of S has had a thought about trying something a little more interesting which involves a gadget. The end result should be Moroccan food especially a lamb tagine.
There is a website, Lakeland, who provide the gadget, preferably the big one, and a recipe book. I think that it will still come within the budget despite F of q a l overspending.
Thanks and good luck to our KK.
On top of my girlfriend's ridiculous suggestion, here are a couple of my own. I haven't bought any new cookbooks for years, so if any of you have one you like, that would be very welcome. I also always need shirts (semi smart for rehearsals). I'm a medium and if you can find slim fit that would work very well... More suggestions to follow but hopefully that's a start from both of us!
I'm very interested to hear more details of the Bootleg Beatles fiasco....
I think that even in this day and age every aspiring gentleman (even if he is a horn player) should be able to acquit himself honourably on the dance floor, and as such think this a very worthy suggestion.
Hopefully he is a little more able than his elder brother in this respect - despite a year or so of dance classes many moons ago in Slough, my wife is still subjected to the dance equivalent of an articulated lorry attempting to lead a ferrari around a roundabout...
Strange that a feel for pulse and rhythm doesn't always translate to the feet and movement.
(BTW, the reason we stuck to the dance classes was that the characters there were absolutely hilarious, from the trainers to the other (would be) dancers). All I can remember is laughing most of the time as the words 'KEVIN, what are you doing...' were literally screamed from the other side of the room. Poor kevin had two left feet, and a personality disorder to match.
OK,
Finally found 10 minutes to sit down and get some ideas on for our KK....
So, here's a riddle related to one of Our wishes
A drinks machine offers three selections - Tea, Coffee or Random
(Either tea or Coffee)but the machine has been wired up wrongly
so that each button does not give what it claims. If each drink
costs 50p, how much minimum money do you have to put into the
machine to find out which button gives which selection?
Answers on a post card please.....
I mentioned in the previous post.
A present we would really like.
something that isn't to make the toast.
and doesn't help lighten my bike.
When we're in the Emerald Isle.
in the early morning hours
I often go out to the tiles
Where one finds those cardboard towers
The reason is the content of
the little capsules found within
the longing for that lovely broth
dark and strong, all up to the brim
Now to extract that dark black drink
can be done in many a way
but the clues maybe make you think
the way we could, perhaps, one day
I'd just take a large and small screwdriver and fix the machine so that it does what it's supposed to do.
Or invest in a kettle, a coffee and a teapot, plus of course the neccesary ancillaries.
50p is how much that is needed leaving the rest of the KK budget to fix the machine. (Assuming you can taste/smell the difference.)
First put 50p in. Then press the button marked 'Random' It is not random. So taste the cup and label it. (Tea or coffee.) Then knowing the other buttons are also miss-labeled. Label the button marked with the other beverage as Random. (Put the random label on the one marked Tea if you tasted coffee or the one marked Coffee if you tasted tea.) You have now marked one beverage button and the Random button so you know what the third button is. Label the last button.
We need posts of whishes for young kids, including sizes if it is clothes. I have whish lists for our boys, but they may or may not be needed. Please say!
Sorry. I'm seriously confused (again you might say!)
Who are you TSS? I can't work you out at all, but you are obviously very clever, because I Can't understand the 50p random answer either,
Mrs VL.
Yes please put up the wish list for your two especially no 2 as I believe we have a rather large desire for lego from no 1.
Not sure if it will go in our luggage!
Yippee, we have a roof again! Our house has changed shape and roof tiles are now back in place. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... You can't believe how lucky we've been with the weather! (well, everyone is complaining because it's just dark, no snow, around -2 to +2, but it has suited us down to the ground with the building project)
Someone requested hints for children. Should anyone still need some ideas for our kids, here are a few:
1. S: Pyjama size 165-170 cm or anything to go with challenging craft making/kntting (she's unbelivably good at knitting and crochet), a kit containing all sort of needlework stuff, music theme stationary (pen/notebook/mug...)
2. M (girl):clothing size 140-150 cm, anything to do/go with baking, Music theme stuff as for S, a game of some sort
3. T (not the adult): clothing size 110 cm, Lego: especially Chima, Starwars,..., a head torch
4. M (boy): Clothing size 104 cm, anything for Brio wooden railway, a head torch, toy cars, a doctor's outfit
I hope these help.
Sorry a mistake!!!
T (not the adult) is size 116-120 cm!!! (He's grown, I've just realised...)
Thanks Mrs TOCO. Very helpful. Do you need ideas for our two or are we too late?
Mrs TOCO.
Can I do the usual thing and send money and also gift cards and let you get on with getting everyone something they really want. The postage is so much and sadly we're not travelling to you this year,
BUT I'm just thrilled for you that you have the new roof on and all done before the heavy snows. It must be so exciting seeing the new extension take shape.
Mr and Mrs VL
I am travelling to you and therefore need to know what No 2 would like. Clare knows what No 1 wants and we'll do our best to get it.
So, I'm rubbish, but there was one clue and you may or may not have worked it out. Life is chaos and Christmas doesn't help... Over here we have the challenge of customs so please no Internet shopping from overseas as we get lumped with a bill which will be about half the value of the present.... Here's where I would buy from in Norway. It's just beside work so I can pick up same day. https://www.komplett.no/search?q=nespresso. So I can see 4 options
1: Purchase locally and post/send with M and FOQAFBNAAM.
2: Purchase on Norwegian internet site(language challenges)
3: Request that we, or other that can the lingo helps/send money...
4: Get us something else.
If 4 is the desired option please Let us know and I'll post a very uncriptic list.
P.S. TSS, who happens to be here with us, is The Saw Sharpener, if that helps....
To whoever our Kriskindle is, I see It didn't need to give any instructions. Good work!
