Ski Holiday Drama

A week ago today, we set off for our week cross-country skiing at Ustaoset high up on Hardangervidda. After the enjoyment of last years winter holiday , The Thoughtful Scotsman once again joined us for the occasion.

After our four hour drive to get there, The Thoughtful Scotsman enjoyed his trip up the 2.5Km cross-country trail on the trailer of a snow scooter with all our luggage. 2 hours later, these were the scenes outside the Chalet.

TTS had gone straight outside on arrival to take some photo's, slipping on ice that he did not expect to find there, considering the enourmous amounts of snow around. By some incredible bad luck, the damage look like this.

Mrs VL, fortunately, found hidden strength reserves to haul him inside and out the cold and the snow (myself and the sister in law where skiing up the hill at the time). In a tribute to the Norwegain health services, the accident happened around 6:30p.m, TTS arrived at hospital, 200Km away by 9:00p.m., by 10:30p.m he was on his way to theatre and at 1:30a.m. he had an 18" Stainless steel pin and 3 bolts in his leg.

TTS was awake for the operation, stating, when I visited him the next day, that he couldn't see much but the drill felt a little strange and the stitching was quite uncomfortable. He also said, that there was a CCTV of the operation on which he could see what was happening, although he thought it was probably for the surgeons benefit!!!!

Please will you pass our best wishes on to TTS. We hope he gets back safely to Scotland and that his recovery is uneventful. We are all so sorry that your winter break wasn't quite as planned.

You can keep up with Our Father's and mum of all's antics on the new blog:-
Our Parents art in Cork.

(Except I haven't actually found out how to add to the original posting. Kid sis must show me before she's gone French)

Blimey mate, you don't do things by halves do you? Had he been drinking your home brew?

How is Andrew getting on? I guess he's not going to be able to fly for a while now.

Send him our regards, hope he gets better soon.

Amazingly, TTS travelled back to the UK yesterday in a private jet laid on by the insurance company. He is safe and sound at home in Glasgow now.

No, there was no home brew involve, maybe that was the problem.....

Wow, bad luck, but just as well Mrs. VL was there. A cool head in times of stress... Not the best circumstances to appreciate a helicopter flight, I should think. Best of luck to TTS.

Ouch!!! Pass on my best wishes when you next speak to the Mr Campbell.

Unfortunately, it's a common injury for us Scots. We put our fat, lightly-used wallets in our back pockets....and then that happens when we land on them!

All,

I will pass on your regards, who knows, maybe the man himself will oblige with a comment to let us know who he's getting on...

Groundskeeper Willy,

By Jove, you've got it... We've been desperately trying to figure out how it could of happened!!!

It was a nice helicopter flight. Good clear night. Good photo too, although I am not sure it was worth 8/10 weeks on crutches.

Hi TTS,

Great to hear from you. Just remember, 2 of those 8/10 weeks has nearly gone already. Time goes quick, it'll soon be all a memory.

Good luck with your recovery and keep up whatever excerises you've been told to do.

ow ow owie - it hurts just looking at it! Do take care TTS. Maybe you and VL and Mrs. VL will feel up to a lake district visit in May -- we're on for Eskdale Green. See Nck for details!

Eleanor,

Mrs. VL is already planning a long weekend in the Lake district in May, I may be joining her. TTS will be around, don't think he'll be climbing any mountains though!

How's about dinner at Nicks gaff in St. Bees!!!!!

Sounds fair to me - we shall all invite ourselves to Nick's place! We're in May 12-22.

Ouch! That looks truly horrible - my commiserations to the Thoughtful Scotsman. And looking forward to seeing you all in May. Though it won't be in st Bees, I'm afraid . . .

Oh dear, I hope that hasn't got anything to do with Chilli contamination...

We'll be there for the weekend of the 12th May. Keep either Friday or Saturday day free for either me or us, and hopefully Eleanor can join us..
