Baby Room Part 3/Bathroom Mods Part 1 - New Shower/Bubble Bath

You may well ask, why does fixing up the baby room involve installing a new shower in the bathroom. Well, I've said it before, that one project leads to another, and I'll say it again.

On removing the panelling on the wall that is between the baby room and the bathroom we found out that our bathroom, which is supposed to be a wet room, is not 100% watertight. There's a small but all the same significant leak somewhere in the corner of the shower area. Wet rooms are suppose to have a waterproof membrane behind any walls/tiles, needless to say, this is nowhere to be seen.

After unsucessful attemts with some silicon sealant we decided the only 100% safe solution was to install a shower cabinet. The cheapest shower cabinets available are seam to be around 4000,- Kroner, a lot of money for a quick fix which will be thrown out in a few years when we re-do the bathroom properly!

Today, this appeared on Finn.no, Norways internet market place. It's the full pack, Bubble bath with 7 nozzles, back massage and seperate foot massage facility. Integrated shower with handheld shower head, shower head in the roof and 3 side nozzles. 3 years old. New Pris 21,000,- Kr.

You may well ask, why on earth I knowingly have purchased a bath/shower unit that's 225cms high when the bathrooms only 215cms to the ceiling. As ever, "I HAVE A CUNNING PLAN"

OK you have spent 5,000 Kr. on a smart looking bath and shower. It doesn't fit. So either, you drop it into the raised floor - if you can get the drains to work with the fall you have left on the waste or, you chop 10cm (4inches) off the top. If the height of the unit is to be reduced please check that 1.90m is available or you could have a smelly guest next time I visit!

On the design front I would recommend leaving removable panel access or even a small door in the baby room to get at the plumbing. Too many bits of modern plumbing get built in and sealed up - storing problems for the future.

Looks like a rapidly growing project. Bathrooms are never quick, I hope alternative facilities are available while work is in progress!

TSS,

I can assure you I am not touching the structure of the bathroom at this time. The floor is sealed and heated no way I'm going there!

190cm should not be a problem.

I'm in full agreement regarding the access panel, unfortunately it's the wrong wall, all the plumbing is in the other 2 walls of the bathroom. The new shower/bath unit comes complete with all it's plumbing in built, it just needs connecting to the exiting connections which the shower mixer tap is on now.

I have no intentions to do any more in the bathroom than fetch the new unit (today and maybe tommorrow), bolt it in place (including my cunning solution to the height problem)and connect up the two hoses (This weekend).

If all goes well, by Sunday Evening it all be done and dusted...........
